Catching Up with Myself!

The journey that seems unending.. but there is an ending, but this is not.

It has been a long time since I have written for a blog or anything. Just want to share one of the longest days I have had today and yesterday! Yes, it is 1:21AM now, and I have been almost awake for most of the 24 hours plus. Assessing the best approach to one problem-my PhD!

Yes, it is not just any problem that could be solved overnight, but would need an entire overhaul of the mind, body, and spirit! Spirit with a capital S! We (speaking on behalf of the PhDs) need all the help we can, but above all, the nuisance of life within and in-between PhD experiments, writing, and all-nighters, we need the ultimate guidance from above-God Almighty! He stands firm in His promise to answer when we ask, open the door when we knock, and give us the degree in His time!

Only time is the necessity that no one can pay for and cannot be replaced, replenished or even kept. We must be wise not just in our efficient time-management for balancing writing and data gathering, but most of all, life in all its essence.

What got into me in writing this entry for this almost-spring time here down under? Not much but just gratitude overflowing! Not just for some good progress on some major milestones, but also being in that moment where one can sense the basics. Not the complicated, complex web of technicalities, strategies, and even making excuses either to procrastinate or create some bricks and walls just to avoid facing the problem head-on!

I realised in just a few cups of coffee that I really never reflect on what the meaning of life is for me right now. I am not sure where this entry is going, but I am glad that I have this moment alone, by myself, not lonely but surrounded by the love, peace, and faith from my Dad, Friend, and Counselor, who is always giving unlimited chances to get back on my feet and finish the race. Among His many blessings that are too numerous to count, he has a loving, understanding, and very supportive wife-Joanne and wonderful kids, Edra and Aury.

I know I have some friends whom I missed and would share a bottle of beer where I could just talk about anything and anywhere, though we never really have time. They are there, and there will be more in the future. I know I used to deny that side of me-being too friendly and easy-going, and fun to be with! I know I'll light some of the parties and would love to connect with people, or even connect other people as a mediator or sometimes as a referee.

I also believe I am an all-rounder. Jack of all trades, expert in some! Leadership, management, and of course, a follower of rules (though I can see the loopholes). I remember a story when I went all ballistic in answering back to a rude trainer on one of the trainers for a brand merchandiser/promotor/surveyor when she tried to question in a manner of undermining people whom she thought she was better as a person and everyone was below her. Though thinking about it, I was rude as well in fighting back, not just barraging with statements, but attacking the personality. She calmed down, and I apologized at the end. The results of the training? I did not get the job!

Silver linings are everywhere! Seems one could either get gold or get some of the silver linings! This blog entry does not seem to go anywhere. My point, going back to that missed job? I did learned that most of the co-applicants were assigned to critical areas in the area where insurgents and local terrorists were staying. One of the vans from the group was bombed, but God still had plans for them; no one was hurt. Another major silver lining that turned to gold was when I needed to move to another group. New project, new supervisor, and start anew. One could just, as cliché as it sounds, there is a lot of goodness in the world, from people to more people! I did end up with my dream supervisor, not out of whim, but I can say, Divine intervention! I really appreciate how some total strangers would be willing to give you a shot-take it with open arms!

No, I am not graduating yet. Still a lot of sleepless nights and challenging moments. I am just starting the fun journey wherein this is the stage of reckoning and final dash to the Phinish line! No more time to spare (technically at overtime now!). I will try to be a better me, beyond the degree, but on being selfless, serving others, and a better person as a husband, father, and as a compassionate human being who wants to change the world with kindness and God's abundance of blessings!

God bless you for reading this blog. Time for a quick nap before going to some data! See you in the next one! Three take away message. Learn to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN.

Stop doing all things that take you away from your true self (not running from responsibilities) that would be counterproductive to your mission which you were created. One will not use a backhoe to make sand castles! Look for the signs from within and in Him, where you were born to glorify. Look for chances and moments to discover where you should be and what you are passionate about and look for ways to become compassionate to others! Lastly, listen to His voice that you may find peace in mind, body, and spirit. We bring defective items back to the store, not just a 60-day warranty but a lifetime! Not going back now, but in His time! We all desire to have that end eventually. but not the start.                                                  Biengwapo 2:07AM 06/08/25

Edra's News Report Year 2

If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Convince us why we should go there too?

Philippines!

Why?
1. People and Food
2. Paradise Islands
3. Festivals!
1. People and Food
Filipinos are known to be one of the most hospitable in the world! This traditional warm welcome is the food they offer even to complete strangers! Taking the "Good Samaritan" to heart! Even if they have little to nothing, they will find ways to help and offer you something. It would be like an insult to not accept the hospitality. Food is embedded in the culture with diverse origins and foreign influences from Spanish, Japanese, American, and Chinese cuisine. Of course, most of them are adapted to that Filipino taste i.e. sweet spaghetti, and lots of stir-fry noodles. Welcoming all nations of the world!

2.  Paradise Islands! Yes, the Philippines is an archipelago surrounded by water and almost all these shoreline offers pristine beaches and cheap but fresh catches of kinds of seafood! From the iconic coconut water that you can drink fresh from the tree to bonfires and the likes! Villas and other accommodations are widespread and can even offer medium to long-term stay in the paradise islands like there is no tomorrow! Water activities evolved and continuously evolved from traditional snorkeling, and island-hoping to skydiving and jetskiing!

3. Festivals! We love our patron saints and their birthdays and any significant dates related to our religion and culture! Hence, all year round, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate and not just simple small-group celebrations but the entire town or even province party! These festivals are known to bring not just foreign tourists but also local tourists! Street dancing, food showcases and beauty contests are a mainstay of these festivals!

A glance, a glimpse turned to observation and stare.

Never planned nor dreamed someone like me to capture.

Someone like you so sweet and tender bedroom-voice and all

Understanding the facts and time took a turn for better.

Life was not and will not be a fairy tale.

For there’s not much on “live happily ever after”

Because there’s no ending in the story of our life

It is a continuous and ever evolving timeline!

Opposite attracts as what the magnet define.

Most times we turn not opposites but alike.

We clash, we argue and fight and clash a lot

At the end we act as ‘knife and grindstones’ connecting the dots

Days turned to weeks, months to years and decades.

Laughter and tears and mixtures of emotions we faced

Jus remember that I will always be here supporting and comforting you

Despite of my mood swings and tantrums and wits, we’ll always make it through

Edra, Aury and me is not lucky but blessed

Being bless in every moment ‘coz you’re our partner, mom, wife and bestie!

We can face all trials and tests with you shining the light

We love you always , now more kisses and hugs so tight!

-papa, Edra and Aury!

You brought tons of smile when you were born.

Mama and papa was praying, and God listened.

Answered our prayer for a beautiful daughter.

We don’t know what to do and how to child rear.

Many sleepless nights and experiments that failed.

Blood, tears, and lots of uncertainties unveiled.

When you smile you made everything well

In your own way you take all the blues away!

Days turned to months and years, and you’ve grown!

Your talents and with started to unravel all so sudden.

Your thirst for learning and training seems demanding.

Despite of the busyness of everyday ‘ma and ‘pa will find ways and understanding.

You are growing, learning, and struggling to find sense.

Time could be a friend or sometimes could be troublesome.

We cannot stop it but just make the most of what we have.

Always remember ‘ma, ‘pa and Aury will always be here supporting to your every move.

Continue to shine with those tons of smile!

God listened and will always listen to our prayers and pleas.

Trust in Him that tomorrow will be better for all of us.

We are proud of what you’ve become and love you always!

My UPLB memoirs Part 1: Freshman

The world I thought I knew!

At a glimpse on my first day as a freshman way back June 2001, I was a province-boy who simply wants a catch of a city life and a city girl. But it was a shoking thing to have been enrolled at UPLB where it looks more “province” than the place where I came from. People are merely citynized. The way they speak, act or even the way they dressed during class times. I remember one time I got a classmate who wore sexy blouse and make up and all that, later it was anther shocking reelation that he was a cross dresser that she was a he.

My primary adjustment was how to live in a dormitory. We were assigned a new dormitory with the name New Dorm. But it was not new after all; we were the first to occupy the 5-year old building. Imagine a dorm full of freshmen from all walks of life and sort of personalities, from the jologs, nerds, cool guys and gals, super friendly “vote-for-me” people who knows each dorm mates by name. I got to try to learn how to wash my clothes, clean my room, budget my money, budget my study time and I was not successful in everything but I succeed in trying. I tried not to flank an exam, tried to attend all my subjects but I also failed. However, I tried to enjoy my military science or ROTC, and I got a 1 flat. It was a destiny I took for myself.

A side story to that, ROTC made me to a man I am now. I sound like I really got plenty of fun and excitement during the formation. Well you can say that. I developed a certain fulfillment and thrill during times when a moment would require you to gain composure and integrity under pressure. I really got to be the best when I am pressured especially when critical thinking and be wise counts the most. I am superb at both. I met a lot of people that somehow I abused figuratively with lots of punishment when they got lots of demerits by coming in late or with unshaven boots, buckle, and face. But I was just and considerate most of the time. I camaraderie and brotherhood I abhorred towards my co-officers and friendships on duty prevails. I could never forget sunny days during drill days of my college years. To be continued…

Perseverance and trust and humility!

Perseverance and trust and humility!
March 15, 2010

Today I learned two things in life based on the homily of the priest. As I recall it right, the story in the gospel was about the second sign of Jesus’ miracle when He was able to heal the child of a royal official who came a long way from Capernaum to Cana in Galilea just to see Jesus and ask for His mercy and healing for his child.

I could recall the priest mentioned that persistence proves sincerity. Sincerity when we ask for something especially when we pray for something and ask for grace in our endeavors. Most often than not we ask in our prayers certain things to happen and we pray day and night and most of the time we got answered prayers. Needless to say, God gives us what we needed in his time; we only need to prove our sincerity by asking for it more frequently.

The royal official didn’t mind the distance he travelled and the hardships he experience during the journey. He sticks to his goal of asking the Lord for mercy and healing for his child. We could see here the great love of the father to his child just like most of us do in times of calamities in our brothers and sisters in the community. We intercede for them and we continue to pray for them with persistence and a trusting heart that God would give them what they need through us. We only need to trust the Lord Jesus that our journey would be fruitful that we may believe in just His words that when we go our brothers, sisters, children are healed that they are really healed.

Lastly, we go on persistence with our prayers that we go on growing in faith. It is not with sight but faith that we see God’s saving grace and healing power. The royal official believed and had left as what Jesus told him to do but did not rush to check if his child was really healed or not when Jesus told him that very hour. He clings on to Christ’s words and trust in it.
The story in a greater picture tells us that Jesus is really the Lord of mercy and could heal anyone who needs healing. It tells us to be humble enough that we cannot do anything but to seek for His power and mercy that we are nothing without him but we can be witnesses of his saving grace and great selfish love if we humble ourselves and persist in asking, minding not the distance of the journey but trusting in the goal of the journey.
